As we all know, literature plays a very important part in our lives. We love reading one form of it or another. Some of us may enjoy novels, while others may enjoy poetry, still, others may like to read non-fictional works. Similarly, our children also love reading all types of literature. They firstly start with exploring the genres that interest them, and when a particular genre interests them, they get hooked on it. They may read only one genre for their entire childhood as well. But, a child must be exposed to all types of literature as early in life as possible. Restricting a child to just storybooks and the like will not enhance their progress. They must also learn to appreciate poetry, non-fiction works as well. Sometimes, parents find it difficult to remove their children from one genre and shift them to a new genre. Children show immediate disinterest when they are given a new genre to read. Thus, it is important for parents to gradually ask their children to shift from one genre to the next. This will reduce the crankiness of the children and will also increase their interest in other books and genres. In this blog, we will be giving you some tips as to how you can unhook your child from reading just one genre. Tips on how to unhook your child from reading a single genre

1. Allow your child to keep reading his favourite book again and again. When he/she tires out of the book, then slowly give them a different genre to read.

2. As a parent, you can also try reading different genres in front of your children. When your child sees you reading so, then he/she will quickly learn to appreciate the different genres.

3. Keep a home library in which you should put books of different genres. Or you and your child can go to your nearest community library to borrow different books to read.

4. Always read along with your child. Help them in articulating new words which may be difficult for them to pronounce.

5. Make reading time fun. Create a calendar in which you can list out the different books for each day of the week. This will also encourage your child to read books of different genres.

So, these are our 5 tips that you can use to unhook your child from reading just a particular genre. Children need to appreciate all the different kinds of books that are out there in this world. This will help them in expanding their knowledge. It will also form into a good habit for the future
