Celebrating Rabindranath Tagore
Celebrating Rabindranath Tagore
Rabindranath Tagore, lovingly known as Gurudev is indeed one of the strongest literary figures that the world had the privilege of witnessing.
Born in Kolkata on May 7, 1861, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature after he came out with Gitanjali in the year 1913.
Apart from being an accomplished writer, he was also an outspoken social reformer who worked in feminist and socialist spaces. He is responsible for changing the scene of education for women in West Bengal, with the establishment of Shantiniketan. He was also a playwright, poet, composer and a well-respected figure all over the world.
He has given a lot to literature. From poems such as Stream of Life, Dui Bigha Zameen, Gitanjali, and Chitto Jetha Bharyshunyo, to short stories such as Kabuliwala, Bhikharini, and The Postmaster, he has provided us with a lot to read and learn from.
On his birth anniversary, BookPal urges you to pick up an anthology of his short stories and read some of them. Today is also the perfect day to tell your little ones about his contribution to literature and his strong-willed principles that made him never bow down in front of our colonisers and anyone else who looked at us as something less.
