Librarians are very important to any library. The profession involves a lot of practice, perfection, and patience which is a must if you wish to become a librarian. A librarian keeps stock of all books, magazines, journals, periodicals, etc., and orders them if he/she finds a shortage in the library. The role of the librarian is quite fulfilling and pleasant. If you have a passion to read and good management skills, then you can excel in becoming an excellent librarian. Let’s have a detailed look at what a librarian needs when it comes to making it a full-time career

  1. . Desire to meet and serve the library’s user community.
  2.  Ability to think analytically and to develop new or revised systems, procedures, and workflows.
  3. . Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
  4. . Knowledge of computers, the internet, and commercially available library software.
  5. . Knowledge of a foreign language for communities with non-English speaking populations.

And many more such skills allow a librarian to be successful in his/her career. The degree course for a librarian is first, an undergraduate degree in any stream that can take up to 4 years. Then they have to pursue a Master of Library Science in order to become a librarian. In this blog, we are going to look at some of the best librarians in history who shaped the way libraries function and even people’s perspectives on the same. So, some of these famous librarians are

  1. Ben Franklin
  2.  Melvil Dewey
  3. Eratosthenes
  4. Saint Lawrence
  5. Mao Zedong
  6.  Seyd Mohammad Khatami
  7.  Golda Meir
  8. J. Edgar Hoover
  9. John J. Beckley
  10. Giacomo Casanova

Each of these names did contribute significantly to library science and devised a whole new stream for students to pursue a career in. It is very true that a library opens up a whole new world for us. It can teach us many things in the process. We can choose any genre and study in-depth about that topic until our minds get satisfaction. In a library, there is no end to knowledge and we can find it in any corner of it. So, do plan some visits to the library on National Library Week with your little one and enjoy a world full of books. We, at Book pal, always encourage our readers to read lots of books and keep the knowledge with them forever. Happy Reading!
