When we visit a bookshop in our city, or maybe an airport, we often have a wide variety of books at our display. There are tons and tons of books wherever our eyes go.But, sometimes, we get drawn to a particular book that catches our fancy. We become so involved with that particular book that the rest of the books don’t matter to us anymore.

For example, we may pick up a book because we like its front cover or its subject matter is very exciting. 1. Cover Page- This is perhaps the most sought-after reason as to why people tend to pick up books. Cover pages make us excited to read a particular book and we dig right through it without knowing if the subject matter will interest us or not. But some book covers are really vivid and colourful and catch our attention. Children’s books are thus, even more, colourful so as to attract tiny tots into buying them.
2. To have a meeting with the author- Some books inspire us so much that we are ready to meet its author. People skim and scour the entire novel first and then read up everything about the author. This happens when the content is fresh and trending. This starts a lifelong bond between the reader and the author in an imaginary world.
3. Dating the author- This is the next step after the meeting. As readers, when the particular author’s work becomes our favourite, we try to buy all of his/her’s books and then even read all of it in one go or take our sweet time to finish. This creates an even deeper bond between our favourite author and us.
4. Favourite genre- This is another reason why people pick up their books. A reader usually knows what genre he/she likes, and then picks up their favourite one in the bookstore. It can be romance, thriller, sci-fi, fantasy or horror, we as readers know why we love our genres.
5. Just to get a break from our chaotic lives- Sometimes when the world around us feels like it's going to crash anytime soon, we feel the need to escape this crazy world. Reading books can help in this matter as we get transported to the world of the characters in the book and also it releases the hormone Oxytocin in our brain that allows us to have a calm sleep and relieve stress.
