World Storytelling Day
World Storytelling Day
It is true that every human has a complex life, full of their own struggles and wins and losses. It won't be a lie if we say that if you sit down to tell your story, it will start feeling very novel-worthy to you.
Of course, not all of us can turn our lives into a movie or have a book to our name for posterity. What we can do, and help our children do too is - learn how no story is linear. We will all have ups and downs, and we will all have to try a little harder to overcome the next challenge our way. But as the pages turn, we will end up with colorful life, the kind you call worth living.
If you want your child to feel more empathetic towards their world, and to learn about the importance of this one human life they have, you need not scare them with concepts like death for them to understand the gravity of our existence.
BookPal recommends helping them by introducing them to books. Here's a list of books that have stories that make you want to look at the world a little differently, to find the right colors for your own life -
- Winnie The Pooh
- Heidi, Johanna Spyri
- The Hardy Boys Series, Franklin W Dixon
- The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery
- The Wind In The Willows Leslie Sims
From O Henry to Ruskin Bond, we have master storytellers who have been on this earth and had the courage to look at things differently. It is funny how the same leaf, the same boring routine for us are something worth writing and feeling inspired from for these people.
20th March marks World Storytelling Day. BookPal thinks it's a good day to start writing your own story and helping your children plot their own.
