International Women's Day (March 8)
Today is a special day. While it is true that we cannot sum up our gratitude for women or celebrate them in a mere 24 hours, we have to take time out of our lives today in order to acknowledge their contribution in all spheres of life.
BookPal firmly believes that if we start them young, the children will be able to learn how to respect women and remember that they are no less than them.
Today is the perfect day to tell your young ones about strong women. The little girls will be able to feel confident and dream bigger, and the boys will be able to rise up from the “boys will be boys” mentality. After all, everything is interconnected, and it is also true that the core of life is women - be it nature or us.
We urge you to sit your kids down with classics like Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, Anne Of Green Gables by Lucy Maud, and the Malory Towers series by Enid Blyton. These will make your younger children realize that there is nothing girls cannot do and that no one gender is better than the other.
If you want to inspire your children with women from real life, why not start at home? Tell them about their mother, aunts, grandmothers - how they have been multitasking and achieving great things all their life. While you are at it, maybe also help these women around the house, especially today…?
You can also make them read about Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World by Kate Pankhurst, and Women In Science by Rachel Ignotofsky. Coming back home, BookPal also has the wonderful book named Women Pioneers in India’s Rennaisance by Sushila Nayar and Kamla Mankekar - a great book if you want to know more about our own lovely women.
BookPal wished you all a Happy International Women’s Day, and hopes you will remember what Bell Hooks has said - Feminism is for everybody.
