7. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee- This book by Lee is surely a must-read in today’s day and age. Written and published in 1960, it is the story of a man in the early 20th century who has been accused of a terrible crime. The background of this story is the Deep South. This story is gripping, poignant and humorous all at the same time.

8. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak- The background of this novel by Zusak is of Nazi tyranny in Germany. This story is narrated by Death and is a story of bravery, hope and friendship. This book will surely make you hold your breath at certain places during the story.

9. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte- Published in 1847 by Emily, this is the story of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff who struggle with love, betrayal and revenge. The backdrop of the story is the lonely English moorland. This is a sort of dramatic novel, so if you love this genre, then surely add this to your list of must-haves.

10. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger- This is a classic coming-of-age story of an adolescent named Holden Caulfield who decides to leave his prep school to go to New York City as he is gripped by angst and alienation throughout his life. Many people have read and enjoyed this novel.
