The 21st century has been engulfed by the world of social media. Everywhere, people are busily glued to their mobile screens and forget their surroundings about them. The power of social media has taken over the entire world. People are not even ready to read paperback books these days as electronic devices like Amazon Kindle are available to them. That’s why the book industry is taking a backseat. Only a few people have kept the paperback and hardback books alive as they still love the feel and smell of new books. There is no doubt that our beloved paperback books still have their charm as compared to electronic devices. Even if we ask people to read paperbacks, they just simply shrug and deny the idea altogether. Also, children have completely lost interest in reading books as they are more interested in playing games. The population of children is also small who love to read books. So, it is important to keep the world of books alive for future generations as well. In this blog, we will be exploring some points as to how the book industry can be kept alive even in this world of virtual reality. Tips on How to Keep Book Reading Alive.

1. Firstly, parents must allow their children to read whatever genre they like to read. When children know that they have a choice, they will pick books according to the genre and read them wholeheartedly. In this way, they will develop a love for reading which will continue well into their lifetime.

2. Secondly, it is important to be a role models for our children. When parents take out time to read their favourite books, children will tend to emulate the same and thus a habitual reading time will form in which both parents and children can relax and enjoy.

3. Thirdly, allow children in middle school to venture freely into their nearest public library and try and explore different genres of books. This will also keep their reading habits alive and they will love to read newer books.

4. Do not use derogatory terms for your children such as ‘struggling’ or ‘reluctant’. These terms tend to discourage your child from not reading books at all. If you feel that your child is lagging in his/her reading, then you can read the book aloud to them which will help them to understand the chapter or lesson better. You can even help your child to read when he/she is reading so that they develop a better connection with the book.

5. Try to have a scheduled time for reading. No other activities will be entertained during reading time.

6. Always try to carry a book with you at all times. Make sure your children also take their favourite book along with them during vacations or visits to the doctor’s office or where they and you will have to wait.

7. You can make a list of all the books that you want to read in your lifetime. This will also keep your habit of reading alive.

8. The place we choose for reading must be calm and relaxed. It should have a great ambience as well. When the atmosphere and surroundings are great, we tend to read more.

9. When you want to read, it is better to shut off all electronic devices and the internet for that duration of time. These cause way too much distraction which then hampers our reading session.

10. Lastly, keep track of all the books that you have read or are reading. This table will help you check how many books have you read in a month. We hope that you will enjoy these pointers and will certainly try to add some into your life along with your kids. Keeping the reading habit alive is very essential as it is the pathway that will lead to the development of our brains.
